Doctor Habilitus degree was awarded to him in 1997. He has been professor since 1998. Research interests are in arc, resistance, lasers, diffusion welding, heat treatment of ferrous metals and curriculum development of study programs. From 1990 to 2006 he was a vice-rector for studies and international cooperation for Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. He is the author of over 300 research, methodological, scientific and study organization publications, including several books and textbooks, many study guides and manuals.

Command of foreign languages: Lithuanian, English, Czech, Russian.

Dr. Valiulis made presentations of over 150 reports at conferences, seminars, workshops, including conferences related to study process development. Among these the Annual BALTECH Conference 2007 "New Approaches to University Structure and Management" (Stockholm), 11th Baltic Region Seminar on Engineering Education (Tallinn, Estonia), Leonardo da Vinci project Qualifications and stakeholders (Bucharest, Romania), Bologna Promoters' Training Seminar on the Three-Cycle system (Edinburgh, Scotland), Global Congress on Engineering Education ( Krakow, Poland), UNESCO International Centre for engineering Education 9th and 10th Baltic Region Seminar on Engineering Education (Poland), 16th annual conference of Alliance of Universities for Democracy (Yalta, Ukraine), 7th Baltic Region Seminar in Engineering Education (St. Petersburg, Russia), 6th International Symposium on the "Role of Universities in Developing Areas" (Paris, France), 10th Annual Conference Alliance of Universities for Democracy (Budapest, Hungary) can be mentioned.
