Increasing Public Awareness on Costs of Corruption at Admission Exams
in the Armenian Higher Educational Institutions

The Funding Organization: Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State and Administered by American Councils for International Education ACTR/ACCELS
Dates: November 1, 2001 - May 31, 2002

The project was implemented within the Local Initiative Grants Program (Funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State and Administered by American Councils for International Education ACTR/ACCELS).

The project itself consisted of two phases: during the first one the sociological survey was conducted in five schools of Yerevan, Gyumri, and Goris to obtain the following information:
a) opinion of the school graduates and their parents regarding the possible corruption cases in the field of education, particularly at the university admission exams
b) interest of the future entrants and their parents in getting additional information on the admission process.

At the second phase of the project a series of seminars designed based on the survey results were conducted for the surveyed students and their parents in all the targeted regions. The representatives from the Armenian Ministry of Science and Education, various universities, as well as international organizations have been invited to participate at those events. During the seminars the participants received the comprehensive answers on their questions concerning local and international educational systems, particularly on issues related to the admission exams. The interactive discussions have been conducted, during which the participants analysed and investigated the negative consequences of the illegal admissions to universities for them and for society in general.
